Greetings from Germany

Hi all,
I've been lurking and watching (reading) for a while. Looks like a good group!
I'm near Bonn, Germany and have been into BP for the last 8 years or so. Target shooting mostly but also want to build one myself in near future. Restrictive laws here make it difficult to enjoy the sport, but sometimes ya just gotta... :cry: and get on with it.
I'm looking forward to getting back to the US (Michigan for me) this November for Deer. Sorry not with BP as all my kit is here, and I hate the hassle at customs :curse:

Welcome to the forum glad to have you on board.
Lots of friendly folks and information here to assist
with your B/P questions or problems. If you hunt Michigan
on a regular basis, why not get yourself a B/P rifle and
leave it in Michigan. I don't think you would regret it.
I dod't know but i would think it would be cheaper here
than in Germany. BTW how did you find us.. Contribute
when you can and have fun.

The laws here state that anyone over 18 yrs. can OWN a BP weapon (rifle, smoothbore, or single shot pistol) as ownership is not seen as a risk. HOWEVER! if you want to use it then the hassle starts. 1)you have to become a member at a shooting club with a BP group 2)The club sponsors you to take classes to qualify for a BP license (2 days + test + license fee to Gov't) which allows you to purchase, transport and store BP. 3) License states how much BP is allowed to be purchased in next 5 years 4)Each purchase of BP has to be registered into your license 5)License is good for 5 yrs. before needing to be renewed. 6)Guns have to be kept in a gunsafe 6)BP needs to be held in a separate safe. (Lots of additional rules and regs. for storage. ETC..... Most of the rules are common (good)sense, but there is a lot of bureaucracy and paperwork needed to keep up.
Anyway, the gun owner in Germany is treated more as a threat to society than as a law-abiding, sensible, level-headed citizen/resident. Add that I am a foreigner here, and BIG BRO' gets even more uptight.
Didn't mean to rant and rave :redface: But I hate bureaucrats of all ilk and color

I lived nine years in Germany, but I was lucky enough to be able to shoot BP at some of the US Army Rod & Gun Club ranges. Great place to live!

Thanks for the kind words and welcome.
I get home on vacation to see my parents and kin about every 2 yrs. and enjoy the time being able to hunt with my dad and be in the outdoors. However, my time is sooo short normally, that I have not taken the time to organize the purchase and sighting in/load development needed before hunting with a new smokepole. Then again the questions of flint or cap, caliber, smoothie or rifle etc... Ah well. However, I will be moving back to the USA within the next 24 to 30 months. Thereafter, I'm gonna be like a kid in a candy store after getting money from grandma! I've decided that most of my "modern" guns will be sold/traded and smoke will be the way forward. BP has a way of getting into the blood! :thumbsup:

Well, It sounds like your on the wrong side of the pond. :cry:

If your coming to Michigan to hunt, maybe you could buy you a ML and leave it here with a friend or family. That would save you the hastle of customs. Hell, you could buy a train load of them here and not have to put up with that bull $#*&.

Wellgood to hear from germany. I lived in germany for fifteen years and was part of the BP seen for most of them. Nurnberg area in the military and civilian. Did alot of canoeing, camping, and BP. all in primative. People have a hard time believing me about what great black powder, reanactors, and living history buffs you have there.
