I believe the Griswold and Gunnison is the most faked confederate firearm. I've been told that there are three times as many fakes as there are the real thing, and I mean intentional fakes meant to defraud people not reproductions. It doesn't surprise me that this was purchased from a museum, many museums fake items rather than spend upwards of 30 grand on one piece. this gun looks good but has a few features that throw up red flags for me.

Yes, I have one. Mine is a 'sheriff's model' that they sold. The idea was that after the war gun barrels were cut down for sheriff's to use. True or not that's what Pietta said to sell a few more. Mine is also in .44 caliber.

I also shot mine with maximum loads and eventually distorted the brass frame a bit. Young and dumb.

That's interesting to hear. Never knew that. What is one of the many museums who fakes items? I certainly won't spend time or money there thanks. Please provide a list of these forgery museums at your convenience.
