Gun Builders Bench Plans

I was at friendship on monday and a couple of dealers had some sample builder benches out. both were sold out until the fall. I was wondering if anyone has used one and are there plans available? The looked like they might work well but not sure.

I have a materials list I can email ya on the first one,PM me with yer e-mail address and I'll send it, the second one the second one consists of a parrot vise from grizzley, a tire rim with a bag of readymix in it. A piece of 2" pipe with a piece of 1/4" plate about 8" square welded on top to bolt the vise to. Bill

Digger, I used Bill's plan for my gun-building bench, and it has worked out fine. Rather than the suggested 2 x 4's, I went with 2 x 6's for a little more strength and weight, and if the wife doesn't pull the car too far forward in our one-car garage, I have enough room to tinker around! i used the clamp from bill's plan on my bench....i just made the top flat where the rubber strap is........bob

Thanks Bill, I just sent you a PM. The first one is exactly what i was talking about. One of the ones at friendship had a swivel built into the clamp. If I can get a pic of it I will post for all to see. Not sure how well it will work but might be interesting.

Thanks...thought that might be the answer, but it also kinda resembles a wench, a belt sander, and a few other things...just wanted to be sure.

 

That first picture isn't mine, I got it from another website, with no credit for the maker unfortunatley. I wish I could say it was my idea, but I'm not that smart. :hmm: I know Tip Curtis makes them. I had my pencil sharpener on mine but moved it to the wall, so I could put on a Bar Bouy for my favorite beverage, and I put on a small pony vise for doing metalwork fitting right at the project. It simplifys fitting parts, like ramrod ferrels, or inlays. Make them higher than shown, it saves back strain. Bill

Here's how my bench turned out. Sure is a sturdy thing. Now to build a rifle on it.
