I sat in my stand with the Blue Ridge on the edge of my hay field until about an hour before dark then got down and came to the house for supper because the wife calling the dog scared away some does that were getting in range.
After supper i grabbed the binoculars and went to take a look see if anything else came out while i was gone. I was standing there glassing the fild when i heard some noise in the woods to my right. Didn`t even need the glass because not 50 yards from me out came a doe then a small buck with only one 6-7 inch horn, then behind him came at least a ten maybe twelve point monster, he walked broadside to me accross that field and there i stood without a gun. I`m just sick. :cursing:
All afternoon i could here this clicking noise, now i know what it was, it was that monster kicking that spike bucks hind-end.
Well that`s one i`ll never forget, wouldn`t of that been a nice first with the smoke pole. Well now i know he`s still out there so you can bet i`ll be out with my grunt call trying to call him in tomorrow.

So I will wish you good luck and as we in Bavaria said "Waidmanns Heil !" Hope you'll get the monster buck.

Greetings from Bavaria, Germany

Thanks :) i`m on a mission now.

Stupid mistake on my part i know and never have been good with words and could of picked a better title like caught without a gun or something.
I only hunt my own land, 40 acres and seeing a buck like that is a rare occurrence.
I could of used a little encouragement but i guess i have posted to carelessly and am considered a nut case.
In fear of becoming titled a nagger which i`m not i was just trying to fit in.
I will limit myself to reading only from now on.
Thanks.

Since you live where you can hunt , why did'nt you stick that muzzleloader out the window or door :shocked2:

There`s a long row of huge spruce trees along the yard side of the Field plus a very long tractor shed, it was behind that shed and in those trees that i was standing.
I have a blind set up and will be out there in a couple hours rattling horns and snorting on the true talker. It`s raining off and on so i`m not real confident in the flintlock so i will have it, my model 70 257 Roberts with a 3x9 on it and my Smith and Wesson 500 mag. Not taking any chances tonight. :)

Don't sweat how your post came off. I think most of us get the surprise and frustration you felt. I am envious. I won't get to hunt until the first 9 days of the season are over down here and the season doesn't start for a week and a half.

Best of luck!

Ease up. I think the title is great, and we've all had moments like that. You made a mistake and may be feeling stupid. Truly stupid mistakes are the ones that you don't get the luxury of learning from.

Medication is the answer. use between 65 & 90 gr of FFG several times daily and you'll be feeling better in no time

Ha, yep that would change something.
Darn family issues and now to top it off a guy thinks he owns some of my property. :cursing:

Better then hunting all day in below zero weather with no powder in your gun. You know the saying. "Powder, Patch, Ball" in that order. They just don't go Boom, without that powder. Leon

PitchyPine - As a fellow member of Flintlocks Anonymous, I'll share a brief "misadventure" that occurred a couple of years ago. Deer hunting our land in the fall with my Kodiak .58, I saw flocks of turkeys every day, including many big-bearded gobblers, down in the river bottom. So before I left the little hunting cabin one morning, decided to stoke up the 10 ga. with #5s on top of 110 grains 2f and leave the .58 standing in the corner. Sitting in the treestand about 7:15 am, a buck materialized to my left; the first thing I noticed were the many tall tines of his crown as he glided by about 35 yards from me. He crossed in front of me about 50 yards broadside and stopped...stood there for about 20 seconds...continued on and then CAME BACK to the same spot and stood broadside facing the other direction...then disappeared off into the forest. I could not believe the irony of having left the .58 in camp. THE ONE MORNING I took the shotgun instead and here comes the biggest buck I have seen in 10 years hunting this property. But what an enjoyable sight!

I hear ya, them big bucks have a way of showing up at the weirdest times, spooky almost.
I might have to take a doe on my rifle licence, then hut that buck till the end of December with the bow. We`re only allowed one buck per year.
