Hello everyone, my name is Whit Richardson. I'm actually a freelance journalist in Maine working on a story about the gunmaking trade in Maine. The story is actually for radio and focused on disappearing trades in Maine. I was wondering if anyone had any contacts in Maine for people who might still be in the trade and who are knowledgable about the history. I have seen the Adolphsen Bros. website, they look promising, but I thought I'd ask the forum here for your input, there seems to be a lot of knowledge here. I do reenact the Civil War and own an Enfield repro (I can't hit the broadside of a barn with it though)...so I do feel a bit at home here. Thanks a lot, and I look forward to hearing from anybody with input. -Whit Richardson

Whit - I live in Bangor and am a hobby gunsmith. I'm not sure what you need, but give me a call. I'm more into revolutionary period and some fur trade (Hawken) arms. I'm 6 years new to Maine and I haven't made alot of local contacts yet. I might not be able to help you in that regard. You ought look into the Maine State Museum; they have an extensive collection and may have some helpful info. There is also a book on Maine Makers published by the Museum that might help.
