bought a hopkins and allen minuteman 45 cal rifle
in flintlock config.

I was wondering who was the importer seems to be heavily made stamped made in west hurley newyork
and if anyone is shooting one? and if they are pleased with it? and what accuracy they get?

paid only $125.00 for it seemed like a fair bargain

I belive its one built back 1960 or 70s they made a few different rifles like the underhammers, wasnt a import`as far as I know Ive got a 48" barrelrd underhammer 14lb rifle that is a real shooter made same place. Fred

H&A Minuteman was made back in the 60's and maybe early 70's. I used to drool over them in the gun catalogs when I was a kid. (Between that and Fess Parker, I was bit for life!) I believe they offered a package deal which included round balls and powder. Where did you find one? Would like to hear more about it, and how it shoots.

hi I bought it off north south skirmish classified member area. never heard of it but the picture looked nice. has nice brass inleted in the stock i just received the rifle and have not had a chance to shoot it yet. the wood to metal fit is pretty good and its the kentucky style rifle 45 cal. so far im impressed and the usa stamp on the barrel pleases me. I know its not a show piece or completely pc but its pretty close. i took a chance buying something i know nothing about usually i end up the sucker but she looks like a keeper

Marketed by Numerich Arms back in the 70s. Available both finished and in kit form. I think that the .45 was the only option, but, I'm not sure. I bought one and hunted with it for a few years. Took 2 deer with it, as well as a lot of target shooting, including a silver medal in off hand flint at the old Tuckaho Valley rendezvous.. I haven't shot it for many years, but it hangs over the fireplace in my den. If you go to Dixie, I think spare parts are still available. Not a bad rifle, but, I just kind of lost interst in it as I became more involved with smoothbores. I would think that the "minuteman" would be pretty pc for the Rev War period.

thanks im as happy as a bug in a rug now
exspecially being pc! I have been looking for a revaloutionary gun and I had one already!

Recycle I have a cap 45 H&A two-piece stock made in spain. It has real shallow rifling. But I shot It at 50yds and it did good.It is the kentucky style.I went to Log Csbin shop Thur. and got some minor parts. They carry Goex powder.so got 3 cans 15.00 a can,150miles round trip. Stores around here don't have it any more.It has a differnt lock then the Jugars and CVAs no set screw for trigger. I shot 70 grs in it. Dilly

thanks boar-dilly
seems we have a few of the same guns
my h&a is made in america maybe that will be the problem with mine (just kidding) :rotf:

i was excited something made in ny

i bought it to replace my jukar or accompany it since my jukar is sick :rotf:

it seems like a better gun we will see! this is my first american made bp copy gun not counting moldy originals

I personally wouldn't bring one of those old minute man rifles to a PC event and expect that rifle to be aproved by the dreaded "PC Nazis".

good thing I dont go to events then
me the woods and my gun you see. Dont reckon I care much about playing boy scout shooting blanks anyhow when i can shoot lead :rotf:

Recycle Right on .Only event I go to anmore is one a mile away .You can go and camp primitive and have fun with the no hassle, they don't shoot here any more, just do cannons and mock fights. Dilly

What every you want to do is fine by me! I just wanted to give you fair warning about how that rifle would be accepted at some of the 18th century event/shoots I've been to where the jury can be quite strict.
If it makes any difference to you, I don't much care for shooting blanks either.... :v

i guess you wouldnt care about shooting blanks mike when you got that 30 pound 4 bore wall gun you built (jelous) ofcourse your chiropractor might :rotf:

Lucky for me I never got to shoot it before the customer came to pick it up. I would have shot it out of curiostity, but had no real burning desire to go out and spend the day blazing away with it. :winking:

you dont know what your missing. I thought long and hard on ordering rifleshops wall gun kit to end up with something close to what you had. I do have a 4 bore but its a conglamoration of parts not fitted well. and im waiting for a 4bore smoothy barrel from rahl

do you make those guns regulary?
i was most impressed with your tallent with the wall gun

No, that's the only wall gun I've ever made. There's only a casual interest in guns like that. Lot's of guys entertain the thought of having and shooting a gun like that, but when it comes to putting cash on the barrel head most people spend their money on something a little more "shootable". :winking:
At 38lbs that gun wasn't a pleasure to build. I suffer from carple tunnel and tennis and golfer's elbow. It was quite a painfull ordeal to take that thing in and out of the vice during construction. I wouldn't relish the thought of building another heavy brute like that. :shake:

There must have been some changes during the time it was marketed. Mine has a one piece stock, brass patch box, and brass inlays where the 3 pins go through the stock to secure the barrel.

mine also is a 1 piece stock with 3 oval brass inlays in the forearm like a pennsylvania and also the brass patch box. shot it today printed real well from 40-75 grains ffg 440 patch ball
avg 2-21/2 inches@ 50 yds
:blah:
