This is a copy of a Halbach and Sons pistol by Leonard Day. The Halbach's were respected gunsmiths in Baltimore prior to the 1800's, and Leonard Day was a highly regarded contemporary maker -known for his swivel breech and New England style guns. This pistol shows very little use, with few strikes on the frizzen that most of the browning remains -the gun may yet be unfired.
The 45 caliber barrel is bright with a shiny breech plug. Barrel is straight 13/16" and 6 1/2-inches length. Lock is a Chamber's Queen Anne flintlock finished brown like the barrel. Furniture is brass with a cool eagle head grip cap. Stock is a curly maple fitted with a horn cap under the muzzle. There is a handling mark on the bottom of the stock near the trigger guard. Left flat of the barrel is stamped L DAY.
I got this pistol in trade a few months ago, checked it, wiped it down, lightly oiled the bore and put it away. I have a couple other pistols I like and shoot, and seems a shame this would sit in a safe for another 15 years or more.
