Hammer coming to half cock

Today, several times the hammer flew back to halfcock when firing. Didn't do it all the time. 60/65 grains 3f shushu with roundball out of my 50 caliber traditions kentucky rifle. Caps are homemade and are a touch hot. Nipple is a hotshot. What normally causes this? Tks.

Often the mainspring is a little week.
I never used a hot shot, but understand that if the touch hole is a little too big it can cause that too.

Been shooting Traditions Kentuckyish rifles for over 30 years and never experienced this.

Did you screw with the mainspring at all? Be honest.

Your load certainly isn't hot enough to cause that kind of blowback.

Nope, never messed with the lock other than cleaning it. I like the rifle. Plenty accurate.

Pretty sure i found the culprit. I had a nipple that was enlarged with a #55 bit. I inadvertently installed it yesterday. It's headed for the trash bin.
