This is a weird question for sure but here goes anyway.

Has anyone ever tried a hammer extention (like one would use on a lever action hammer) on their flintlock hammer? My stubby little thumb rests along side the hammer right where it would stick out and it might just make it easier to ease the hammer back nice and quiet like. It seems like I need to make a little too much movement to ease that hammer back because my thumbs are so short. Anyone have one handy they can try?

Never thought about that lever extension. Never used my thumb to cock my lock either. I use a "hunters cock" where I pull the trigger the same time I wrap my little finger around the cock and pull it back. Release the trigger and the gun was cocked silently.

Yep; same as I do it now but I think I could do it with just my right hand with a side extention from the hammer. I just think I could get the rifle into battery much quicker with that right thumb doing the cocking as I am lifting the rifle to fire. It just not a smooth action when doing the hammer cock with the left hand.

I would think that the only way to know if it will work is to try it. Me, I'm glad that I shoot right handed, cause i ran my left thumb threw my table saw and it chewed the end off. So talk about a short thumb. LOL

Interesting idea. I had one on a moder single shot rifle where the scope interfered with the hammer. Had to have a side extension. Worked and was handy. But... :hmm: ....to me, it seems like an unnecessary appendage for traditional style ml rifles.
I would qualify that for folks who might have a disability.

I just bent the hammer. Ron

Great idea Ron; thanks for the post. My guns are all flinters because of the laws here in PA. I bet that bent hammer works great!

I think I am going to buy another hammer and tig weld on what I want.

I look forward to your hunting pics and posts for the season. Good luck to you.
