Is there a correct amount of hammer spring tension or doesn't it matter? Pietta 1858 army.

Sure there is but I don't know how to quantify it.

It should be stiff enough to always cause the hammer to hit the frame of the gun with some resolve when the trigger is pulled.

I don't think I've seen a Remington that had "too stiff" of a spring but if your gun seems to have a very stiff, hard to pull hammer perhaps it needs oiling.
