I thought this was "The Muzzleloading Forum." Why are so many threads going way off-topic and discussing cartridge conversions that have nothing to do with OP's questions. I ask a question relative to a topic and it's just run over by the cartridge boys. Doesn't seem like there's any administrative control.

I give up and, if that's what this Forum is about - I'm out.

Oh relax, the topic change will run it's course and then get back to black powder shooting. In the mean time folks will learn a lot about how to work over and improve percussion revolvers.
If one wants only a single opinion without challenge than get a book or manual. These platforms are for discussion and exchange of ideas in real time which includes human personality dynamics just like happens at the shooting range or back yard barbecue.
When I start a subject line here I fully expect it to wonder on and off topic as different views are put forth and challenging counter thought introduced. This makes the discussion both lively and interesting instead of stick only to the subject line ( only the facts mam) boring. One mans opinion.

@Spinner 1 you can report anything to a moderator if you think it's out of line. Just hit "report" in the lower left corner of the post. I have used it and sometimes they do something and sometimes not, they don't always agree. The moderators can't be everywhere. This place has changed alot since it was sold but I think there is more good than bad if someone really annoys you use the ignore button I've done it a few times.

its works. I got banned for the whole month of April.. or you could just use your own filter and not click on threads that don't interest you.

I know there are rules on here and I for one do my best to follow them. With that being said it bothers me not one bit that there is some discussion brief discussion about modern arms on here. It really is not a big deal.

Most discussions I have read that bring in cartridge conversions have to do with the strength or weakness of different platforms and the posters have used the conversions to prove or disprove a differing opinion, which I personally have no problem with as a matter of fact have gained new knowledge from some of these discussions

If you see something that does not conform with the rules, you can report it. And like all living things, even forums change a bit here and there.
But we do try to stay true to the traditional aspect. But none of us on the mod/admin team are here all the time and we don't read every post. (But we can see more than some people think we do.)

Worthwhile discussions can sometimes take on a life of their own and they evolve with each response. As long as they're linked to the original post and the intent of the forum (not some wild tangent like motorcycles or roller skates) and remain civil, I don't see what the problem is. In this case, the discussion was directly linked because these guns were converted to cartridges for several years before makers like Colt went to dedicated cartridge guns. It's all part of the same era of history. You're still talking about a design that dates back to the 1830's and ran its course long before 1900. It'd be different if it was about Glocks or AR15's.

I think your head would explode if you wandered over to the “Jokes, anyone?”, or either flavor of the “What did you do today?(Muzzleloading or general)” threads. The tangents/rabbit holes those often run down will astound you!

C"mon mods, you get paid millions to watch these posts. The least you could do it to catch every word, on every post for some form of blasphemy or deviation, and then castrate the guilty party.

I think of forums as a bunch of guys-maybe a few ladies-sitting around a campfire and shooting the breeze.
Just like the campfire, these forums wander the gamut.
Try not to get your shorts in an uproar just because something comes up you don't like or don't agree with.
