For some reason I seem to remember there being a recipe for it in the back of Dixie Gun Works Catalog but I could be totally wrong and thinking of something else.

2 cups flour
3/4 cup water
1 tbls crisco or lard
1 tsp salt
1 tbls sugar optional

mix ingredients
knead several times
flour cookie sheet
spread doe 1/2 thick
cut into squares
punch holes into squares with fork
bake at 350 until dry (45 minutes ish)
turn over squares
turn off heat put squares back in oven until morning

Wala... hard tack

The Old Woman has been making that stuff for years. I think that she calls it bread.

You ain't never ate the Old Woman's cook'n. Been to the hospital so many times that I bought my own do-it- yourself stomach pump (saves money and travel time). Ate so many TUMS that I got a calcium Kidney stone. At family picnics the fly's won't even come around the "food" and the ants have filed a grievance against her with the Animal Rights Society (she goes to court over that next week).

Dang you Vern, now i gotta clean coffee out of my keyboard AGAIN! :v

Yup. I seen it there in the 2000 Dixie catalogue. It says mix plain (not self rising )flour, salt and water and role out to 1/16" thick. It will rise to only 1/4" and brown on top.Punch holes threw top (use a fork). Pretty basic. No proportions were given.
I tried it 10 years ago and it worked. I mixed it till stiff baked it till brown.
