Sorry to be overlong in getting this posted. In reference to hunting with a matchlock, as long as you can personally shoot it well by all means take it out. A couple of things need to be looked at when hunting with a matchlock though.
1. The match, I keep mine burning almost all of the time. If I am in an area that looks like good hunting, sitting on a stand or still hunting I light it. The smell of the match is no real worry as far as alerting game, for whatever reason most critters seem more curious about the smell than afraid of it. In the past I have even gone as far as adding scent to my match by adding cinnamon, anise or peppermint oil to my slowmatch solution. I had good results with the scented match but haven
