Picked this one up this morning for a Ruger new model single six (one of my clunkers) and a c-note, so I guess I have 300 buck in it. It is a 58 caliber made by Pedersoi that is pretty clean and not shot too much judging from the frizen. I have some .015 patches for my .570 round balls to feed it, does this sound right? I was thinking of starting with 40 grains of 3f and working form there. See yeall at the range.

How much powder then? I will want a nice smooth recoil. What do you recomend?

For what it's worth, in the back of the Dixie Gunworks Catalog is a listing of some common powder loads.
For the .54 caliber U.S. pistol Model 1819, '21, '26, '36 and '42 they list a 35 grains of 2Fg powder load.

For the .58 U.S. Springfield pistol Model 1855 they list a 40 grains of 2Fg powder load.

They are still selling the Pedersoli Model 1805 Harpers Ferry pistol you just bought.
Their asking price in the 2009 catalog is $495.00.
They suggest a load using a .570 ball with a .015 patch over 35 grains of 2Fg powder.

They also sell this pistol in kit form for $395.00.

Have fun!

I got two of them because they wouldn't fire. I
paid $30. each and did a lot of work on the locks.
They take a 560 ball and shot best with 25 gr of
powder..Most others like 3f and twice as much
fuel..thats them this is me..I only want to kill
a hole in apiece of paper not a horse or cow..
If yours are like mine take a big hammer to get
that 570 ball and a 15k patch down the funnel..
Good shooting. The exparimenting is the most fun
and I hope you didn't get the same kind I got...
lots of work...
