First off this also caught my eye as the 1841 Mississippi rifle or the Harper Ferry rifle is the last long gun on my bucket list on having a long gun representing every American War up thru the Gulf War. Just too many red flags and I would doubt on shooting this one. So I got my popcorn and just watch the thread until now.
Half of asking price right off the bat and he accepts it? Doesn't sound legit, someone is desperate for the quick sell or scam or its a stolen rifle. Also all the pics is with the rifle still on the wall with the photo focused on a mess of a desk and pants ruffled on the floor in the background, looks like a slip shot work at home desk, hmmm red more flags, why is that? And the fact Terrydull reached out to pick it up in person.....and no response....that a biggie red herring flag right there. My question is the rifle actually belonging to this seller. And lastly the trigger lock, now I know safety is a concern, but usally when little kids or teens reside in the same dwelling ( or maybe an angry wife LOLOL) My Pedisoli Bess hangs on the wall NO locks, cause its not loaded and our kids are long gone on their own. This long gun in question is a BP with PC, soooo no BP or caps to be found then its harmless. And the fact its not photographed off the wall hangers also leades me to believe it may be locked to the hangers where as the rightful owner would have the keys to remove it for better photos. Now I could be wrong, but after 20 years in law enforcement half being a detective (all in NYC) added 15 year on top in private investigations all aound NYC and counties attached. It just doesn't sound right. I have bought 17 long guns 8 handguns spanning from my Bess thru the Gulf War, being my clones, M16, & M4 only 2 of all my firearms I bought via mail, from the same guy whom I've known personally for over 40 years as a very close friend. Me being in NYS and him in southern Cal, well thats a bit too far to drive lolol. The others I drove to meet the seller all in neutral locations, cash-n-carry usually with a friend and being in law enforcement with my federal carry license I always bring my own insurance. I have seen too many people getting robbed from a fake sale meeting the alleged buyer at some unsafe location. Ive driven 4 hours for one. rifle I bought. Modern handguns of course I bought legally thru FFL dealers in person, keep in mind I am still residing in Socialist State of NY. (Well I'll be out of NYS to a free State mid 2023 That's another topic).
So thats my take. If I am wrong then I apologize, just being me I always like to know how thin the ice is before I walk on it. And my gut tells me walk away its not good.
