Hello everyone, I'm thinking about ordering a gun and found one I really like, Chuck Edwards is the maker and just wanted to know if anyone has ever done business with him and if so was their experience good, great or other, also I see that the price of the gun is about $2500 and from what I was reading on his website that does not include the lock and barrel? Is this how all the builders do business? thanks for any help.

That translates to about $2800.00 with the barrel being about $110.00 and the lock about $100.00.I'm not faniliar with his work though.

It was a way to avoid having to charge you the 11% Federal Excise Tax. It is kind of nice in that it allows you to select the components you want.

I thought there was a law change that no longer required this. I remember reading a post Zonie put up about a tax law change that affected builders in a positive manner.

Miss print there Tom , Barrels are closer to $230 now a days and the locks are pushing $125.
Yes, this is a common practice for many builders, myself included.
You'lll like Chucks gun, I've seen and handled quite a few of his and they where all nice.

chuck worked under frank or herschel house .dont remember which .but you can see it in his guns .does a super job .and by the way so does mike brooks and a good fellow to boot

That would be Herschel. All the stuff about Brooks is purely unproven speculation...... :winking:

never did business with him but seen him at a gun show and handled his guns all i can say is WOW his guns were so perfectly balanced they seem to float in the air and nice looking to i probably would have ordered one from him but i think he specializes in southern guns and i like golden age just my preferance .

The Fed excise tax on custom gunmakers was done away with just recently. Thanks to US Senators Craig of ID and Grassley of IA, they tacked it on as an amendment to the passed HWY bill.

Ta, ta, don't hide your light under a bushel, :: your pieces rate right at the top. Only wish I could do half as well on mine. :peace:

Mike, you're correct,I hit the wrong key and meant to say "$210.00". Smelly old goats have problems typing with those funny shaped hooves.

well im just speaking from what i have seen.i have saw chuck edward's work and mikes and i would pike mike brooks anyday over chuck.chuck does a good job dont get me wrong but its just my :m2c:

Chuck's work has been featured in Muzzleloader and Muzzle Blast magazines. Muzzleloader published a complete article a few years back on Chuck and family with a color centerfold of his work. The Chuck Edwards/Hershel House rifle which consisted of work by both artistians was featured in Muzzle Blasts last year. If you appreciate the Hershel House style of building you will admire Chuck's work. I have visited Chuck's shop, own one of his custom rifles, and can honestly say he is a great person and builder.

Wow I just stumbled on this thread........almost 19 years later. I was fortunate enough to recently pick up one of Chuck's "barn guns." All I can say is Mr. Edward's work is "as advertised" and he deserves every accolade he gets.

I also got a chuckle at the prices........now barrels and locks are 300.00 plus...........if we only knew. Also I would've exercised more & ate less pie!! :p:p
