I recieved notice that my Colonial (.58, extra fancy maple ) rifle was shipped today! I ordered it on July 3rd!!!! I was anticipating a bit more time to get some essentials together, but I will be able to start on some of the more basic stuff....filing the bbl, etc. I was somewhat amazed to get the notice, to say the least. Less than two weeks!

Welcome to the Kibler Club. :)

Just got an email from Kibler, he will have a few extra Colonial kits ready next week, others are 1-3wks out. These kits are Fantastic to build, kind of like the snap together model kits. Still waiting on his announcement of what his third kit will be.

I was going to order a southern mountain rifle kit for my grandson, but the fact that they don't come in larger than .45 caliber killed it for him. He's got his heart set on at least a .50 cal.

I tried to talk the boy into the colonial rifle, since I know he could get one of those in a .50 cal. but he prefers the style of the SMR. Maybe someday they will offer it in larger calibers.

Talked to gal at Kibler this week in reference to SMR availability of 36 and 40 caliber rifles. Has lessened some from what website is indicating. 4-6 on a 36/bit more for a 40 at present. Anyway I did inquire once if possible to have a 36 or 40 on the Colonial rifle, but that was a no due to difference in what cuts a Colonial stock would need for hardware and such for smaller caliber. I did ask from some chatter I heard of the possibility of Kibler offering a Hawken style kit, Was advised no not at this time due to the need to do research and development on the Hawken style and all the this and that of what it takes to offer. I was told though that a 'Fowler' type firearm is in the works, maybe be available by the end of the year (2021). This is what I was told, nothing set in concrete as 'they say'! Good possibility though!!!

Shipping arrival Tuesday (at my brother in laws business...no chance for any jerks to steal it on me).
I hope not to just jump in to it. This week end first things first, clearing a large bench and preparing it to work, then rounding up a few odd tools (new chisels, files). I am not a big video guy, but I have started to watch all of Jims videos on building the Colonial...Thank you kind sir! Time working on the Colonial at this point takes away from my seasonal black powder range work and league shooting, so I am not setting it as the big priority right now. The summers high humidity though will be good for the metal browning.

I ordered the exact same! Good luck and keep us posted. Pics required!

Arrived, and all intact. Wonderfully well packed. My pattern makers vice arrived two days ago, and I think I have all I need. I reviewed the instructions that are included, but they are a poor substitute for following Jims great videos on step by step completion of the kit. I will finish watching the first few (finishing the bbl inlet at the breech, butt plate, etc) and get rolling slowly and carefully. I had to double check to be sure the bbl had the insert placed already...it is so clean I couldnt be sure...it appears just as small hole with some burnishing around it...but it is there.
The stock is so whispery thin that a clumsy ox like me has to be particularly careful. Thank goodness no ceiling fans in the shop area!

Post some pictures if you have time, would like to see what it look like as I ordered one a few days ago.
Thank, Norm

That just means that it is time to start thinking about the next one. Maybe try building from a blank for your second rifle.

"Whispery thin". Yes, that is a great way to express how that stock is. I could not believe how thin my SMR was when it arrived. I just had not had any experience other than seeing these types of guns behind glass at museums.
Now don't worry about being clumsy, you will be able to get it done. How do I know?
If I can, anybody can! 😅

Be sure to take lots of pictures along the journey.

The Doc is out now. 😎
