Then when you got the one turn down walk out half that distance farther 9- 10, turn the blade backwards and throw. Hawk will stick at the bottom with handle up.
I’ve stuck at four turns but two turns is about my max. You have got really chuck it hard, and everything in you arm hurts after doing just one.
I did get the name pixi sticker as I learned how to throw it just had enough to stick but fall out easy with the block being hit by another hawk.
I made a throw at about 40 or 50 feet ONCE ,we kept backing up thr3 steps at a time, made it in front of a bunch of looky lou folk, heard one say did you seethat!i said oh I do it all the time....lol

Some of the really old-old timers here may remember Cricket. He was a regular at Friendship events. Some t'hawk matches are still named for him. He was called Cricket because he constantly made a little sorta chirping sound with his mouth. Real name was Orlph Hulvey. He loved, and was loved by children. He was never too busy to give hawk throwing instructions to children. He could do some very amazing things throwing a hawk. Like stick on the backside of a log or block with handle up or down. I remember him because he treated my sons so well.

Reminds me of some of the good old folks I've met...a scowl that just barely covers a grin. The true value in all of this is the people we meet along the way, isn't it?

:nono: Stop reminding me I'm a packrat!

All this talk of handles  I helped a guy haul off a bunch of wild plum he cut down & saved a few straight limbs that I was going to try making hawk handles from, that was 3-4 years ago, I set them in the rafters of my garden shed as they were cut live. . . . I think 3 years in the hot shed should have dried them out
