Hawk head

Fellas, i'm talking way over my head here, but I was talking to a guy the other day about having a hawk head made and he sez you can use an old octagon muzzling barrel and it makes a good head, is he full of it or will this work, I know a local smith and he can make most anything, any thoughts or help appreciated

They make nice hawk heads

They do make nice 'hawk heads, but the steel is pretty soft. The blade needs to be split and a medium carbon steel bit welded in, otherwise, it won't hold an edge.
