I get in trouble every time I give a critique. But, here goes.
First, you did a beautiful job on that rifle. Really nice, you will be proud to carry and use it.
OTOH I'm dissapointed you used a low end lock on such an otherwise fine looking rifle. To my eye it really detracts from the overall "Wow" factor.

Dang, I new someone would catch that.
Well, to make a long story short. I aquired a "free" brand new .50 T/C lock and barrel that I was going to use as a drop in replacement for my T/C .45 hawken that I use for deer hunting. But figured why bother changing a perfectly fine rifle and have an extra barrel laying around. So I decided to just build another rifle.

My point of posting it wasn't to show it off, (well maybe alittle :wink: ) But to show that it wasn't all that difficult to build. This was not a kit or even a replacement stock. Just gathered the parts from different sources to make a more "Hawken looking" Hawken.

Second, I personally never had any trouble with T/C locks. But I could always upgrade it if need be.

Panflash, I agree, those T/C locks are quite reliable. I bought a used one for a song and dance to put on a scratch build for my daughter, mostly because I knew she should never have trouble with the lock. Only problem is, the outside profile of those locks are shaped "funny". When laying everything out, I was having trouble getting the flow I wanted, so I soldered some metal on the top of the lock and reshaped the profile. Made it straighter on top, and just a little thicker, to widen the stock in that area. Well, you can only do so much to the profile, but my daughter and I were happy with the results. Bill

It is a beautiful rifle, I found myself drawn to the TC lock immediately. I think if you were to brown the lock to match the barrel and iron work, there would not be the contrast and the rifle would look even better.

However, I like the rifle, wish I had one just like it.
