I asked this before without seeing a reply so i am trying again before i go and do it wrong. (hope not). I bought a kit for a hawken and it will be finished in steel. i have filed down the barrel and starting to fit it to the stock. Do i fit the barrel first to the stock or fit the hook tang first then the barrel. It seems that if you fit the barrel first the tang will be much higher or lower than needed. But if you fit the tang to the stock first the barrel will need some lowering in the stock more that what i think it needs. So which is best, fit the barrel first then the tang/hook or fit the tang first bottom it out then the barrel or put them together and fit them both at the same time. I know right now i will have to heat the tang up and bend it down on both ends to bottom it out on the stock? Any help is very much appreciated. Once this is done i have it covered. I put a Lancaster last year together and it came out great. With a little help from all of you.

Thank you again and be safe!

Chris

Because of the hooked breech, fit the tang to the barrel so there are none to minimal gaps between the tang and the barrel. Epoxy the tang to the barrel. The epoxy will let loose when heat is applied to the joint. Inlet the tang and barrel together
