Does anyone know of a decent website where I can find a kit to make a Hawken Percussion? I have been looking around but I can't seem to find what I need (new to shooting). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Chris

How much do you want to spend and how authentic do you want to be? There is a lot of difference between a plains rifle and a true Hawken rifle. It is always better to get the best gun you can afford and the one you really want even if you have to wait a little longer. A real Hawken style rifle is available from Track of the Wolf for a bit over $500 for a half stock model. A full stock is somewhat more. These kits are comprised of first rate parts and will build up into a heirloom quality rifle.

Both the TOW and Don Stith's kits will produce rifles that look like real Hawkens. Both are of very high quality and this is reflected in their cost. The GPR and T/C are good guns but not copies of any particular rifle. The T/C in particular is just a generic half stock late percussion era rifle. The factory guns are backed by a great guarantee, but I don't know if this is true of the kit guns.
Often kit guns are warranteed as to the quality of the parts and materials used in the kit, but as the manufacturer has no control over build quality, there is no overall warrantee for the gun. Anyway, good luck. You might also try a google search for hawken rifles and see what turns up.

Wow! Where do I begin? Thanks for all the help from all of you, this is going to take some time to go through these sites, but in the end well worth it all. I am lucky enough right now to have a friend who just got me into shooting who is helping me out with a gun. He set me up with a stock and all the fixins', so all I need to do is get a barrel and breech plug, sights, etc... He said this way I can save my money for a very decent gun, instead of trying to find the cheapest one and buying it.

He has really helped me out as far as getting me set up so I can enjoy this new sport (uhh to me new). And with the help of all of you I am well on my way. My humble thanks to all of you. Good day.

Thanks,
Chris

Nice to have someone to help you out like that. A lot of us OLD timers had to learn it all by trial and error, with error being the key word. :: Good luck with the rifle.
