I'm assuming the $1,200 figure does include the lock and triggers which seems to be about par for the cost of parts to build rifles these days. Then you add in about 200 hours to build it (that's what it takes me), and you wind up with a tidy sum north of $2,000. You didn't say you built it but it's a very nice job although I was never a big fan of patchboxes in Hawkens.

If I made it I'd ask at least 3K for it.
Since 2020 the cost of parts have doubled plus, but the value of end products often fail to reflect it. I personally have stopped even considering building anything from parts due to the cost. The cost (and final value) of restoring anything from car to rifles to houses has to be carefully considered before you begin.
Around my parts it wouldn't be an easy sell but 1500.00 to 1700.00 could probably be had. A rush sale would bring it to 11 to 12 hundred dollars but the ML market is not the greatest here.
People whom are in The Muzzle Loading Hobby are a frugal lot...dont expect much....

Price depends on quality. You make good stuff and you can get what you want for it.

Thanks for the comments. The gun is not for sale and never will be it is for a friend of mine. Have to laugh though. You certainly tell a person's personality by their comments. I have kinda been making guns for 100 years or more. Sold some in the old days and yes made money, but those are the old days when parts cost $200 dollars, then $500, then $760 and now $1300. For the last twenty years I have just made them for family members. Some paid for the parts and some did not and I had heard that a person without a name(builder) would be lucky to get the cost of parts back. I knew some on the forum would have been selling and buying custom made muzzleloaders and was really curious from you that are involved, if it was true. I guess, once in a while I do like to show off my talent

Here is an original Hawken. This was a smaller caliber squirrel gun. Note the patch box.

Then there is the price the two of you decide what the buyer will pay. Myself I have another price, The I really don't want to sell it price.

1, I am not a Hawken fan but if I was that one would interest me as it is a very nice looking rifle.
2, There are people in this hobby that pride themselves on paying as little as possible for their guns and brag about it such as I bought this ( insert cheap guns name here) and only paid.... then there are those who are a little more discriminating and the joy of having a beautiful hand made rifle is paramount and it is no ones business what they paid. As long as they are shooting and supporting the BP sport I am fine with both, (I tend to the latter).
3, Some people look for reasons to get upset and angry, I have a brother who always sees the negative first and foremost, I am a glass is half full guy. Obviously there are some who read others post and look for reasons to criticize instead of reading them and moving on, they must have a bitter existence.
