Hello everyone.

My name is Harold Coleman, and I am the new Manager of Operations for the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.
I am new to muzzle loading, but considering my new position I need to get "educated" quickly. That is why I am here.
I like shooting and have no preference for what I shoot; I like pistols, rifles, and shotguns. If I had to pick my favorite today, it would be cannon.
I have little practical experience, but I am ready to learn. The great part is that the NMLRA has all manner of muzzle loaders that I can use. Don't worry, I am not going off "half-cocked" we have a great group of instructors that I can rely upon to get me the appropriate training.

I look forward to scouring the site to see what gems of information I can find.

As a member of the organization, and nothing against you, why would someone be hired to manage operations over something they no nothing about? Another decision by this dying organization that makes zero sense.
Easier to teach muzzleloading to someone with a firm handle on the operational/organizational skill set than to teach that to a muzzleloader.

I do not take your comments personally, but can offer the following as a general response.
Hiring someone who has little knowledge or experience in a particular field to manage operations in that area may seem counterintuitive. However, there are good reasons why an organization might make such a decision.

A good manager does not necessarily need to have deep technical knowledge of the field they are managing. My primary responsibility is to oversee the operations, coordinate with different groups, and ensure that things run smoothly. A manager with excellent leadership skills, strong communication, and decision-making abilities can successfully manage operations even in a field they are not intimately familiar with. If you consider that a manager from a different field can bring fresh perspectives and ideas that may benefit the organization, you could presume that the association is looking for a different approach to solving their problems. I believe that this was the intent when I was offered the position. My previous experience and current enthusiasm for the success of the NMLRA is, in my opinion, a necessary component of what is needed for the future of the organization.
