Hi, all,

Brand new member here. I am not sure how much of an introduction you need from me, but here is some pertinent information:

I am a Montana native and lifelong outdoorsman. I have been a missionary pastor for the last 29 years, which means I have also worked just about every job you can imagine to make ends meet, from sawmiller and mechanic to deputy sheriff and loan officer. I love to hunt, fish, trap, camp, reload, and have dabbled in smithing and leathercraft. A large percentage of the food we eat is from the 3-7 big game animals I shoot every year, eggs from our hens, and vegetables from our garden.

I almost exclusively use vintage equipment (pre-64's and 1950's era Western knives and camp kits) that I have inherited or found at yard sales. I have always loved tales of Western lore, and especially Mountain men and pioneers. I have wanted to get into black powder shooting since I was a kid, but could never justify a "toy".

A couple of years ago, My father-in-law passed away. They were not overly close to us, and the only thing his 2nd family left my wife was a Wm. Muir contract Springfield. He and some buddies bought a crate of them in the 1970's and cleaned them up, keeping the best, and selling the rest to make a small profit. It hung on his wall, unfired, the entire time.

I determined to get it shooting, and to take a deer with it. I have questions about it, but I will ask those separately. I saved up and bought some caps, powder, and ball, made a shooting bag and powder horn, and started playing with it. It will shoot about 50 yds accurately with patch and round ball. I took a small doe at 35 yds last week. It was so cool!

Anyway, I am looking forward to getting to know you all better, and will ask a few questions along the way.

Jason
