Hello from New Zealand. I live in the South Island just below Dunedin. I own a 2nd hand .45 percussion but I've been looking into getting a flintlock in.50 or .54 for deer hunting, some of those reds get pretty big.

Hello and wow, the Dunedin Nugguts are something to see...

I wish you the best of luck with your hunting not just for the critters, but for that "black magic" rifle too. No matter which deer medicine you end up prescribing, hope ya' keep y'er shootin' straight! :redthumb:

Thanks for the welcome.
I've been do a lot of reading on the forum and I'm amazed at the amount of great information there is. I only know of one other person that lives near me that has ever shot a deer with a muzzle loader, and that was a .45 PRB and he felt that was a little light but that was all he had. Rifles are a lot harder to get over here and much more expensive, Pedersoli's pretty much got the market sown up. On the plus side though New Zealand has no deer , pig, thar or chamois seasons. Every animal you could wish to hunt is introduced and considered a pest. As for deer I have Fallow, Red, Wapiti and White Tail all fairly close and Sika, Rusa and Sambar in the North Island. No one I've heard of "stand" hunts here. It's always stalking through quite close bush.
I'm looking forward to picking your collective brains. Thanks again.

Welcome to the best muzzleloading site on the net, hope you enjoy yourself! :hatsoff:

Hello also from New Zealand!

I'm from the Wairarapa. I own a pair of '58 Remington .44's and are planning to get a m/l rifle soon. Might even try a little hunting with it, too!

Welcome!

The more I learn about NZ the better it sounds!

Hope you find much here and add some, too.
