Hello gets, I'm Dutch from Athens Al. I"ve been hunting with longbows for around 25 years, and a few years ago I purchased a TC flintlock a few years ago to take advantage of a 2 week blackpowder season on a local wildlife refuge here in N.Alabama.

Other hobbies are collecting briar and meerschaum pipes, and smoking good quality cigars.

Looking forward to getting to know you guys and hanging out here on the forums. :)

Y'all sure did embarrass the Razorback's last year! :haha:

Some of my ancestoral kin came from Calhoun county. They migrated and settled here in Texas after the War of Northrn Aggression.

Welcome to the forum!! My younger brother lives up there in Madison. He's into blackpowder too. I lived in Huntsville til I was 14.

Thanks for the warm welcome gents.

Wattlebuster, do you know Harold Holcomb? He had an archery and blackpowder store in his basement years ago in Phil Campbell.

I think i know Harold, didn't he have a store in Florence back several years ago? Smoke & Feathers i think was the name of it. :hmm:

smo, yes back in the early 90's Harold and his partner John opened smoke and feathers behind the mall on Cox Creek Pky. This was during the time period when I was in his hunting club, Dixie Archers, which was bowhunting only with limited blackpowder.

They eventually closed the Florence store. I visited Harold back in 03 in his Phil Campbell basement shop, but haven't made the trip back down to see him since then. He is a fine fellow to know and do business with.

 Yep those are the guys. They had a great store and a good location i'm not sure what happened :idunno: Maybe the long drive everyday. I sure did enjoy doing business with those guys, they were always willing to help a guy with a bow or a smoke pole  There was another guy who opened a store in Killen just a few years ago who was connected to those guys i think. He didn't stay in business too long...... :shake:
