Just got my first muzzleloader. I went shooting with some friends last February and enjoyed it. I didn't want to share a gun this year, so my girlfriend bought me a Christmas present.

I picked up a 2003 Cabela's .54 Caliber Hawkens. The gun is made by Investarms and from what I have read, it is the same gun as a Lyman .54 Hawkens, and is a very nice rifle. It's very clean, probably only shot 60 times. It came with 54 hunting bullets, 54 lead balls, GOEX powder(3F and 4F), a pan primer, some patches, short starter, 6 new flints(new one on rifle also)and some brushes for $300. I'll have to post a few pictures when I get a way to take some and get them on my computer, hopefully this week. Now I have to get a few other items, powder flask, powder measure, ball puller, patch puller, and a case for it. How'd I do, pretty darn good I imagine :) !
I can't wait to fire it for the first time. I have to get it sighted in for lead balls as it's sighted for powerbelt bullets now.
From what I have heard, muzzleloader and addictive, just like the Jeep CJ's I am into

pajeepman,
Welcome to a great sport.Hang on to your wallet,
it can become as addictive as you let it be.

I went shooting last weekend. First trigger pull it went off and I hit a 9" paper plate from 50 yards. Shot it about a dozen times. Had a bullseye from 50 yards. Sight is a tiny bit off, but shooting well. 5 balls within a 2" x 5" from 50 yards, all just slightly down and to the left of the bullseye. Will be going shooting again the first weekend in Febuary.
I need to get a different ramrod(T/C power ram) or something the help push it down the barrel to save my palm. A .530 ball and .020 patch in a .54 is pretty tight, not what I would have thought to shoot but an expert in muzzleloading told me that is what I should shoot, so I did, worked well too!
