Hi,

I just joined the board here and wanted to say hello. Generally I’m a quite forum member that uses the search function and reads old posts. If I have anything in question or of interest I’ll post it.

I shot my first muzzle loader ( a well put together kit) recently, and I’ve decided to jump in with both feet. I currently collect pre Korean War US military firearms and equipment. Most of my collection is from WWII, but I’ve decided to move into some older stuff.

I’m currently fully engaged in learning about the 1861 Springfield and have decided that I am going to add one to my collection. I ordered a copy of “The U.S. Model 1861 Springfield Rifle-Musket” by Hartzler, Yantz, and Whisker. I look forward to reading it once I get it in the mail.

Does anyone have any other good sources of information on the Springfield?

Additionally, I’m interested in picking up a pre civil war rifle. Something that would have been used for small game or target shooting. I’m thinking something around 32 cal but I’m not set in stone with that caliber. Needs to be a rifle, and dual set triggers are high on my priority. The goal is to have some fun with this. Maybe go small game hunting with it, like it was intended.

I do shoot my collection. I also take very good care of my collection by keeping everything clean and oiled (where appropriate). I am familiar with shooting old guns and completely understand the steps needed to be safe (have a qualified gun smith with specific knowledge of the time period look the piece/s over)

I work as an electronics tech full time and also go to school full time studying for a Batchelors degree in Applied Mathematics. I should be done by Christmas. My hobbies include gun stuff, wood working, metal working, restoring old vehicles, fishing, exploring and traveling... All with my wife and daughter.

Other than that, I look forward to learning everything I can on here and hope to engage in some good conversation here.

Welcome to the camp!
As you can tell I am new here too, but I have been reading the discussions for a while and can say there is a wealth of information handed out by the grand membership here.
Enjoy the adventure and welcome aboard!

Welcome to the Forum, Jamison. :hatsoff:

Your time here will be well spent. Lots of knowledgeable folks willing to share their experience.

I found and purchased an 1861 contract rifle made in 1862. I'll post pictures when it arrives.

Louisk,

I am in fact from the same land, though I am admittedly much further south than you. Ketchikan is where I call home these days.
