Ah ha! Same as mine. You'll like it. There's a weirdness, guns, like people, are all individuals, but if you would like to go to school on my experience, my Tryon for target shooting likes 60 grains of FFG real black powder, a teaspoon full of polenta over the powder charge ( I use one of those yellow plastic Lee 3.1cc dippers), a spit lubed .018 cotton pillow ticking patch (I cut mine square, bought at haberdashery store), and a 530 roundball. And, when on the line, I do use Windex, a light spray, on a piece of flannelette to clean between shots - stop just short of the height where the powder charge would sit, otherwise you can push gunk into key areas that need to remain open for the flash to reach the powder. A good solid range rod will be your friend when firing lots of shots at the range, and to protect your palm when using your short starter, a small rubber mallet to tap the balls into the muzzle.

When I started shooting the Tryon, I used a .535 round ball, but it then required a very thin pre-lubed patch that had to be store bought - accuracy was OK, but the .530 ball and plain pillow ticking eclipsed it by a considerable margin. Some folks dismiss the idea of an overthrow of filler, but I had the privilege of watching a European Target match once and noticed that most of the competitors were dropping filler on top of the charge. It was explained to me by the winning circle that it served two purposes, protecting the patch and assisting in providing consistent pressure. I don't know if those reasons are scientifically correct, but in my Tryon, the overthrow of breakfast cereal provided consistency in group size, smaller too.

For hunting, I do everything the same with the exception of moving to a 70gn powder charge. Enjoy your Tryon and yell out if you have any further questions. Do yourself a favour on your first outing and start out close in at 25 metres with a good sized 8-inch international circle target before heading to 50 and beyond.
