Arthur, Its a rather big & deep pool of knowledge your seeking to dive into , might help to start with some particular aspect . Rifled, Smooth, flint, or cap lock ,time period your thinking of .That sort of start point like which country at what time period .Some extol the merits of factory guns like Thompson Centers, Others would joyfully leap over a big pile of them to reach one battered old Mongolian matchlock, I confess ide be in the latter group . Good luck anyway.
