I had a walker. I sold it when I saw the barrel/cylinder gap starting to open. The colt half frame design putts a lot of strain on the steel behind the wedge and you will start to see it open over time.

I am pretty sure I accelerated the wear by shooting 220 gr conicals instead of 140 grain balls over 60 grain BP. The heavier conical increased energy by about 50 to 100 ft-lbs.. but stressed the gun considerably more too.

I have not seen any wear shooting 40 to 45 grains in the 1858 Remmy. I shoot it hot often. Its just a stronger design.

I think 1851 and 1860 colts make better belt guns then the Remmy's because they are lighter. I don't recommend going hotter then 28 grains BP on Colt Belt guns. I have gone as hot as 35 grs BP and it shows some stress behind the wedge too as a result.

I like the idea of a dragoon. Maybe that will be my second pistol or maybe a pair of single shots? :idunno:

It's been a while, but I've fired a Walker a buncha times - just too big for me. Anything that requires weight training to build up the wrists, ain't that much fun to shoot all day.

OTOH, My Dragoon will chug along all day with my best accuracy loads, but quickly turns heads as soon as I load it a bit hotter.

"Boy! I must be getting old. It seems like only yesterday a brass framed C&B revolver was only selling for $129."

My first C&B revolver was $29.95! Brass frame Navy. If you are old I must be ancient!

one of my daughter's friends asked how old her dad (meaning me) really was, and she told her that I was "older than dirt," to which the friend replied, "well, I guess he's younger than rocks." I had come home the week prior with a used but still in the box Ruger Old Army a week prior, for which I had paid the princely sum of one hundred and fifty dollars to a reputable dealer.

:shocked2:

Well change of plans. I found a dealer that has two 1851 navy from cabelas new in the box $149 each. Going in the morning to get them.

Brass or steel frame? If steel, you should consider buying both - no more thrill than firing a brace of matching pistols + you can always mark one up a little for resale or trading purposes.

I'm thinking of getting both. I called them today and all he could tell me is they are pietta navy and 36 cal. They come with a extra cylinder also. He was about to close so couldn't get a lot of details. But they are holding them and I will be there when they open.
