Hello all!

Well first off I must say the amount of folks that are in love with muzzleloaders is incredible! I recently was gifted a CVA .54 (Made in spain) from an close relative, unfortunately he has suffered from some severe memory loss. So all he could tell me it was something he built from a kit probably like 30 years ago.

The gun looks like it needs some tender loving care, after that I would love to get the chance to shoot it. It does seem I am missing two components from what I can tell from my research.

1) Percussion cap nipple (M6x1 rifle> Recommendation I found was for Treso AMPCO Nipples for No 11 Caps?
2) Appears to be another threaded screw that is MIA that threads into the side of the nipple portion of rifle. Please excuse my explanation, I am learning all of the correct terminology.
Any recommendations on the two missing parts above? When looking at the rifle barrel it doesnt have "HAWKEN" written on it, so i dont have to jump the gun and order the wrong parts.

Pictures attached.

Appreciate your help, looking forward to hours and hours of more researching.

Cheers

You need a 6X1 mm nipple. AMPCO would be good .Most other brand of nipple would be good too. The clean out screw would be a 5mm . Around here the hardware stores do carry metric screws. You want one almost long enough to reach the nipple hole, but not actually touch the nipple. I have to hacksaw them to the right size. I see a lot of rust. That needs to be dealt with and inside the barrel too.

I just bought some CVA parts from deercreek they ship fast. Shipping was reasonable. They have good reviews here on the forum. They have CVA nipples and also other brands as long has it's 6x1 threads you should be good.
They also have the clean out screws for the drum $2 each. I found nipples locally at Academy. 2 pack was $10. Traditions brands stainless which get good reviews .

Thanks everyone, appreciate the advice and direction. Just took it apart today, looks like I have some work cut out for me... but will be rewarding when its all cleaned up.

Happy Sunday

The Williams peep sight is a good upgrade. Please don't use a brass bore brush. They have a tendency to pull off a ram or range rod. There must be over 500 threads on the forum about stuck bore brushes. For the rust a good penetrating oil is a 50/50 mix of DexronII ATF transmission fluid & Acetone it will out perform any commercial penetrating oils except Kroil. Also the CVA rifles have a patented breech so it is recommended that the breech plug not be removed.
This site will help you.
