Ok guys I have long read, but never posted. Let me first say I have learned a ton from y'all so thanks. I am nuts about BP shooting...heck any shooting. Fishing too, but there are other forums for that.

Basically I am a decent mender/builder (build two wooden boats) but I lack the skill of a real craftsman when it comes to making something look professional. So if I did it myself it would be functional but not pretty.

Ok here is my question. I have a BobCat rifle which when I first started shooting BP 6 years ago I cracked the darn thing the first day forcing the wedge pin in backwards (READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!). After years of shooting and hunting my mend job finally gave out.

My options are to fix this stock again (would have to paint it ugly!), build a stock from a blank (no shot), order a custom stock inletted but still needing quite a bit of fitting (my illfinished hawken pistol is laughing) or order a new stock from CVA (if possible). I know I could buy a new one cheaper, but this is my FIRST gun. It has to be fixed!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of the above. Be that it is your first gun & you are stuck on keeping it, why not buy another one at Walmart, swap the stock, save the extra parts for spare parts or sell them on eBay or Auction Arms...... You may end up with a new stock with little $ invested after selling off the parts.
Or........ go to NAPA & get some JBWeld & weld the heck out of it & paint it camo....it will most likely be stronger than it originally was.

My first gun that was built from a blank was broken last year from a slip on some ice. Beutiful birds eye maple. Cracked through the stock at the lock panel. If I wasn't with a bunch of skinners I think I may have misted up a bit. :( I cut and fit a plate to hold the break together and it looks good. I still may just retire the old girl.

Check eBay. CVA Bobcat barrels, locks, and stocks turn up fairly regularly. The search words I use are: muzzleloader, muzzle loader, muzzleloading, muzzle loading, black powder, blackpowder, and percussion (stock or gun).

Jbweld would work except it is wood and I would have to paint it. That would be the last resort...

Don't think I haven't thought about it...I have.

Send me a picture of the stock. I can trade you a synthetic stock (new) for it if I can repair the wood. You can e-mail me a picture.
