I don't understand the term "Pre-Dixie Gunworks" I bought my "Kentucky Long Rifle" as my first muzzleloader in Oct 1973 when my dad and I started muzzleloading. I ordered it out of their catalog because there were no muzzleloaders being sold locally. Shot my first big game animal (and largest) whitetail buck with it in 1975. I have to sell my "Turner Kirkland,Union City, Tenn # 486" 45 cal percussion cap long rifle. What era do I refer to it as?

Mine says "Dixie Gun Works Union City Tennessee Made in Belgium 319". 45 cal. also.
I bought it new and I thought that was in the 1960's but maybe I'm remembering that wrong. The ones that say "Turner Kirkland" would be older, I would think.

Maybe yours was New Old Stock left over from the old days

Any idea of what the sights are worth on the "Pre-Dixie Gunworks" Kentucky Long rifle Oct 1973? I have an extra set

Turner Kirkland got his start selling muzzleloaders out of the trunk of his car as a traveling salesman. The DGW website says Turner started selling his Kentucky Rifle in 1954.
I met his son and Daughter at the SHOT show in Dallas a few years back. Very nice folks. I bet if you call DGW and asked to speak to them they could shed more light on your Rifle.
