Help identifying this stain on a 50 year old gun

Help, I know this may not be correct forum, but I am trying to identify the finish or stain on this muzzleloader I recently purchased.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Front sight is backwards.

in the 70's there was a company based in Bakersfield California that made stains. the marketed heavy towards stock makers. their stain made cheap woods like birch look aged and oxidized .
gets my vote. and there is nothing i know of marketed today like it.
Beverlee's was the name.

wow SMO! never thought of that! do you knock it back with a solvent or just wipe?
gotta be water proof or close.

I didn’t spray it heavily with the paint and it was applied after it was stained dark walnut if I remember correctly…

It was rubbed back with 0000 steel wool and coated with satin spray polyurethane …

Naval Jelly was used for the barrel…

She started out as a blonde….

PC/HC correct for circa 2022…

Minwax makes an Ebony stain that I add a little mahogany stain to it, test on a piece of scrap and stop adding when I'm and my wife (who is the artist) are satisfied with the look.
