The best cheapest way is a AAA battery, drop it down the bore and shine a flashlight down the bore. I carry them with me all the time. At gun shows, those mint bores are sometimes not mint!

I use a Maglite Solitaire flashlight it will drop down barrels .50 and over ,

Works for me too.
