That's interesting. I've sent a couple of muzzleloaders to Canada, though admittedly a few years ago. One went through like clockwork ann the second sat in customs inspection for 6 days. Just to vent a bit, I contacted UPS and told them to deliver it or pay for it. Got the usual "not our problem when it hits the Canadian border". Told them my uncle, the federal judge, disagreed. Next day it was delivered. One day, I'm going to have to get an uncle who's a judge! :rotf:

About TVM.... My first fowler was a 20 gauge from them. It is a nice looking, functional gun. It is two pounds heavier than my 16 gauge from Mike Brooks

Shipping flintlock long guns to Canada is no problem - they are not classed as a firearm.

Never, ever... ever... use UPS. They are hands down the worst international shipping company to deal with. I have two very bad experiences personally, and have heard many more. The postal services (USPS or Canada Post) are infinitely better than them. I specifically ask any vendors in the US not to use UPS. I literally will not order something if I'm told they only use UPS. Problem is insane brokerage fees, terrible long wait times and horribly ignorant customer service. Oh, and they also left a bright green "Remington" box on my doorstep all day unattended and in full view from the busy street, despite the delivery orders saying signature required. Customer service said the driver can leave packages without the signature "at their discretion" and did not see a problem with that drop. :shake:

That's very interesting...my experience is just the opposite. Can't depend on USPS or FedEx, but UPS never fails...well except when I had to 'urge' them on the one time! Who'dah thunk it? :haha:

Fed Ex for me. If fer no other reason than one of my favorite dogs hated UPS, actually barked at their planes (really). He didn't even get up for the mail man or the fed ex guy.

If you only hunt with shot why not consider a choked bbl .62? I've built several under 7lbs and they are turkey killing at its best. They shoot patterns like a modern shotgun. Colerain makes them in swamped 38'' which is close to what you were after. The only change to loading is the use of wool wads. There is more info on them if you search the forum too.

Yes, I have considered a jug-choked fowler but I'm "on the fence" as to whether I feel like that is cheating and whether it is PC or not. I enjoy getting my gobblers in close and am not sure I want to shoot past 20 yards anyway. Call me crazy, I guess I like the thrill of the chase. I do well enough at it to not feel like I need a choked gun (most days, that is... :haha: ).

Well, looks like I am going to bite the bullet and get on Mr Brook's waiting list. One of those Carolina guns is callin' my name!!

I'm still looking. I've expanded my search and uncovered some more builders and good places to keep an eye out for ready to buy guns. If I weren't so impatient, I'd put my name on the list for Mike Brooks. And I've found that 18 months isn't such a horrible wait (assuming that is where Mike is at). Clay Smith told me he's not taking any more orders at present, with 3 years' work ahead of him! :shocked2:

One thing is for certain, you need to be as patient in procuring a flintlock as you do hunting with one. :haha:
