Need some help/advice, I'm refinishing a curly maple stock on a Mowrey, nice piece of wood! id like to achieve a color when I'm finished of what a cestnut looks like, that rich deep redish brown kinda like the old time Pennsylvania guns ive seen in a book called STEEL CANVAS, any ideas or advice for a stain color or a mix would be a great help from some of you experienced builders, after this one is done, I received a 25% of coupon as a door prize at a recent rondy from Pecatonica, thought i'd restock my t/c hawken with a gm barrel to a curly maple fullstock hawken, if that one turns out ok im gonna try a build from parts, biting off a big one there, this sites been a wealth of info, wish i found it along time ago, Thanks Gents

Regardless of the stain, Tru-Oil adds reddish to the wood. Find some Aqua Fortis, if you can. :)

AQ does give some red, but you should also test some English red and cherry -- both available from Track.
