I plan on ordering a Kibler Colonial this coming week. I'm 99% sure I'm going to go with a rifled 58 caliber. However, I'm not sure on the wood. I'm trying to decide between the fancy maple and the extra fancy maple. Is the extra $125 worth it? If you have a Kibler in either of these two options, can you please post a picture along with the grade to help me make a decision? Thanks in advance.

Not much help here. But I'm all in with the 58. It's the old man in me. I'd rather carry a lighter gun and accept the recoil. :)

Wood is very personal. I'd say if the cost is not an issue then go for the extra fancy.

I am building a .58 Colonial, and went the extra fancy. I am not doing any further embellishment to the rifle, so I am going to let the wood speak for itself. I have never seen an ugly Kibler, so strictly up to the owner if they have the extra money.

Mine is a fancy grade maple.

I got the walnut stock, mainly because I have no experience using Aqua-Fortis and I have seen some wood that really turned to dark for my liking, but also seen others that would win a prize.
The choice is yours.

I went with extra fancy maple on my .58

You won’t be disappointed with the upgrade

Regardless of choice, a well done Kibler is still a great rifle

Appreciate the thread. I have recently been drooling over flint locks in general and I only fired one TC about 26 years ago, went down the percussion road, but man those Kibler's are sure beautiful. I wonder how long it will be before I take the plunge, but it feels like I am getting close. I'll have to figure out a way to stay out of divorce court though. Now what did I do with that winning lotto ticket...

Here's my(at least for a while) Brooks/Kibler .58. It is covered with Brooks-isms. It doesn't have the premium curl. I don't know what grade wood it is. The curl is pretty regular in the fore-end but dies out some in the rear end. Mike added set triggers which added a little to the LOP. Also a thin patch on each side of the trigger bar.

I have 3 Kibler kits, one Colonial and 2 SMR's. The Colonial has an extra fancy stock, and both SMR's have fancy stocks. Jim's fancy stocks have more character and curl than most peoples extra fancy stocks. The extra fancy is really super. I would post pics but I do not know how to. I just ordered another kit and went with fancy. I am very pleased with his stocks at this level.

Better is the enemy of good and perfection is elusive. If you need to have a degree in stock grading to tell the difference it might not be worth it. Put the $125 in a fund for the next one. Just so you like it and your buddies make yummy noises when they see it. Just my $0.02 worth.
