Not too long ago I was given a smooth bore musket. The infomation I was given was that it's a Springfield 1835. After doing my own research I think it's more likely a Charleville 1777. The trigger guard and what I can make out of the cheek plate seem to fit. As you can see from the pictures the musket has been badly damaged by fire. From what I'm told it was found I a burnt out building at some point in history. The trigger guard and the ram rob holder appear to have a bit of a brass sheen in places but I'm not over sure yet. On the plate on the firing mechanism side there appears to be the remains of ornate marking and just below the plate is what looks like an 8. There is a number of making on the musket that I have no idea about and would be interested in your thoughts.
