I am redouing a old CVA stock I took all the old finish off reshaped the cheek piece and thinned the stock some. The wood is almost white I put a coat of Formsby Tung Oil high gloss/ It brought out what little grain is in the stock and the rest looks kind of yellow. Any suggestions on what I can use on this to make it look decent. Thanks in advance for any info.

Dispatch Look in old posts about the vinegar stains. I have some about 6 mos old that work good. Dilly

Hit it with brown leather dye. You'll have to strip the stock if you already put the finish on it.

Swampman is right.
If you applied any form of finish that hardens, you will not be able to use most stains. Anything that will color the stock without removing the Tung Oil High Gloss will be closer to Paint than stain and as such, any grain will be totally hidden.

I hate to be the barer of bad tidings, but the best approach would be to strip the Tung Oil, stain the wood and reapply a new coating of Tung Oil.
Stripping the Tung Oil may be a bit of a problem but you could try one of the better paint removers.
Because the paint remover may not totally desolve the Tung Oil, this might be one case where I would agree that a oil base stain or a leather dye
might be the only thing that will have much effect on the wood.

I say this because if there is any oil which has soaked down into the wood, it will prevent most of the water or alcohol based stains from penetrating very far. At least the oil based stains or leather dyes are compatible with the oils in the finish.
Good luck to you. :)
