Welcome from Kentucky, I am also a veteran of the Navy so I say welcome sir to the forum. When it comes to your new rifle think safety and common sense ask question and you will be fine. Enjoy your rifle. I also bought my first muzzleloader while in the Navy, .50 TC Hawken rifle.
 
Some real Blackpowder, a few different thicknesses of patches Patch lube, appropriate size lead balls, a short starter and some #11 caps as I am assuming it is a Caplock. Then some basic cleaning materials. I am headed to Misssissippi to crappie fish for a week but when I get back I will make you a nice sized starter kit as a gift and get it to you. I am in the Fishers area about every day with work.

Got home from Mississippi this morning and am going to put you a kit together on Monday. I will get you a pound of FFF, Tin of caps, .490 Balls some patches, Lube, cleaning jag and a short starter that should get you ready to shoot. I will Message you Monday and set up a time to get it to ya.
