I have a W. Richards single shot muzzle loader which was left behind at my grandfather's BP gas station back in the '30's , it is in tact, but the trigger mechanism is not functioning. The stampings are very difficult to make out.
It has a 32" Damascus barrel and the bore is roughly 19 mm. It has been "refurbished" at one time, but it was obviously rusted/pitted from age and maintenance. The muzzle is quite thin too.
I don't have any idea if this piece has any significance, but I have had it for over 23 years.

Welcome to our group. You’ll get all the help you need by posting your inquiry over on the “Smoothbore” Forum. Help awaits you.

Should I assume this is a smoothbore or a .75 cal rifle?

“W. Richards” ( not Westley Richards) may have been a Birmingham gunmaker or your gun may have been made in Belgium. Folks making guns in Belgium used English-sounding names to convince the unsuspecting to be buying an English shotgun. The proofmarks on the barrel at the breech will tell country of origin. You may have to take the barrel out of the stock as some marks appea4 on the underside of the barrel.

Glad to have you in our ranks.

Thank you for some direction 🙏, I'll inspect it closely with magnifier devices and attempt to get details of all markings. There are some on the top of the barrel, at the breach block joint area.
