I just retired and figured I'd slow down so I got one of these muzzleloaders. I live just outside of Elko, NV. and hope to deer hunt in the fall. I've shot them with everything else (my first 2 deer were with a bow back in the '70's), so I've got a chance. I drew a tag in the Big 6 area and will start scouting soon. My rifle I got from Cabelas a few years ago is an Investarms Hawken .54 that seems to shoot pretty straight. Also have an Uberti 1860 Army just for the heck of it. Anyhow...my name is Craig.

Welcome CRAIG im from nc. Enjoy ur stay

One more Howdy from North Texas and welcome to the forum.
I'd like to check out the Elko area for hunting. You don't hear much about hunting there.
Thanks for the welcome and you guys for moderating. Most people think of Vegas when they think of Nevada, but we are higher than Denver and can actually get to Wyoming or Montana from here faster than to The Vegas Strip, and that's after driving thru Idaho! We actually are having a moose hunt this year. A half hour from my door are bighorn sheep and mountain goats, but they are pretty damn hard draws. Mostly just to look at, as are the moose. Even deer are getting hard to draw nowadays, even though I have to look before I let my Airedale out in the morning lest she get the stuffing kicked out of her by some big mama doe. This is my 1st successful draw in 3 years. At this rate, I don't know how many more hunts I'll get to do being 70 years old now. I'll tell you though, I just enjoy sneakin' thru the woods with my rifle.

No one in Texas has to worry about draws if they hunt in state. Our tags come with our license. My county has a 4 deer, 5 turkey limit. So we're fairly blessed in that. And a deer season that last about 10 weeks.
Maybe someday I'll get up there.
Enjoy.
