First I’ll apologize in advance for the greenhorn questions I’ll be asking. I've been shooting modern guns since I was small but my only black powder experience was with an inline CVA that I picked up for the express purpose of extending my hunting season.

My brother is a redcoat in a local regiment and has been bugging me to get into re-enacting. While it looks like a lot of fun I’m not sure I’d have the time for that. I was curious about flintlocks though. A few weeks ago a very generous friend handed me a Pedersoli Brown Bess as a thanks for helping his mother out a few times while he was away. So now I’m hooked. My son has named the musket his favorite thing in the house so he might be my excuse to buy a BP rifle but we’ll have to see how that works out.

I have no idea what I’m doing beyond the basics so I’ll have a lot of dumb question. I promise to do searches before posting anything as I’m sure what I want to know has been asked many times before.

:hatsoff: Howdy and good ta have ya here.Everything you want to know you;ll find here. This forum is a wealth of knoledge.Yer gonna get hooked.Best wishes in your new adventure. Griz

Welcome and hello from RI. Lot of great and accurate information here. The members here are very knowledgable and friendly so ask away and enjoy your time here. Art

Welcome. And no apologies necessary! We all started out knowing very little, and learned what we know by reading, and asking questions of those who "knew more than us".

Unfortunately, a lot of what those folks "knew" just ain't so! Lots of myths and misinformation associated with black powder and muzzleloading.

Fortunately, you have found the right place. There are folks here will answer questions you didn't even know you had! And they back their knowledge up with documented experiments, and lots of thoughtful experience.

I continue to learn every day I am on the Forum.

So ask away. No one will call you a "dadblamed cockamayme idjit"... and if they do, they'll be smiling

Thanks for the welcomes. As promised I searched my questions before posting. I found out my frizzen needs to be hardened and found a kind of local to me guy with a good reputation here to do it. It’s now on its way to Earl at http://flintlockrepair.com.

I still have a lot of reading to do before I feel comfortable posting questions but maybe I can pitch in on some of the non-technical discussions.

Greetings from the western part of MA. I can't imagine a better place to learn the sprawling expanse of the muzzleloading world. Right now you have no idea how many fascinating aspects of this world there are, and how much fun you're going to have discovering them. You're probably thinking I'm coming on like a cult member, but I'm just in a good mood and the thought of standing at the beginning of the path you're embarking on is really exciting. Congratulations!
