Owned several cap and ball revolvers, but never a long gun until my father in law gave me an early mint-condition Thompson Center .50 Hawken percussion just recently. Shoots great. Killed a nice 240 lb black bear, a turkey (head shot), and today a squirrel (body shot with a patched ball…not much left).

I’m totally hooked!

Yup, sure. A Hornady Great Plains 385 grain conical over 80 grains of 2F.

71 yard shoot through both lungs and also slashed the heart. Complete pass through. Went 40 yards and folded up.
