I just got a new hickory rod from Track. Is there a way to straighten it a bit before I stain and finish it?

Heat and pressure will get most of the major bends out of it. :v

I did that last night. It's not to bad now. If it's as good as it will get, I'm fine with that. I just wanted to be sure before I finished it. Thanks :hatsoff:

You should be able to get it dead straight, if that's important to you. Some stubborn spots will respond to rubbing the outside of the bend with a screwdriver shank or some such tool.

Good luck!

soak it in kerosene for a couple days to make it less likely to break, and just keeping it in the thimbles will help straighten it.

kerosene worked for me. A little bow keeps it from rattlin in the pipes. Wild Eagle

I was thinking that :hmm:. It was pretty funky looking when I got it, but just has a slight bow to it now. I was thinking about leaving it for just that reason
