I needed a starter and didn’t like the plastic ones I was seeing so I made this one out of hickory . FBC

Nice work, Captain! It looks like a rugged tool, built to be used, and to do its job well. Light weight and handy, too.

I like the minor imperfections... The rough surface on the handle, minimal finish work, and the main shaft is not quite straight. The Japanese have a term for this... wabi sabi, appreciating beauty in nature's imperfections.

Good job!

I like your starter. I do think that the short stub could be shortened to start ball so it is just below the muzzle. I cut at the muzzle, so I want the ball just below the muzzle. Not so necessary if you are using pre-cut patches.
I have not used it yet but made it for my .54 rifle . Yes I pre cut . FBC

Like me it has plenty of imperfections . I like making things from wood and try to make them look old when I'm finshed. FBC
