I keep looking at these parts from the Rifle Shoppe that have engraving molded into them and wonder if after being browned, the engraving will be hard to see. Which got me wondering if you guys use some tricks to highlight engraving? Was wondering if something like brass black could be used to fill in the engraving? Or should I just not worry about it?

Really, the best thing you can do is to file the cast in stuff off and engrave it. If the parts hadn't been bead blasted, you could have pulled it off with better results. I know that's not what you want to hear. :shake: If you aren't an engraver, there are several engravers who can for a reasonable price. If it seems pricey, perhaps a simplier design that would still accent the pieces could be used. If you card the parts carefully, you should be able to see the engraving just fine. I'd go for a smooth brown, not a think finish as on an aged piece. Brownell's has a carding brush that should be perfect for that. The tiny wire bristles should get into all the nooks and crannies. I think it runs about $20. Good luck, and above all :relax:!

I've been happy with just extra heavily browned, let set, and work the pieces with fine wool or fuzz pad until polished. Then with oiling / waxing the engraving seems to "pop" out just fine. :m2c:
